Oakville East – 2009 Harvest Notes

The 2009 vintage began with a mild spring, good fruit set, followed by ideal growing conditions with mild weather through veraison that continued throughout the summer months. September was the warmest month of the vintage and pushed ripening along at a steady and even pace. The grapes accumulated good ripeness and flavor development because of the heat and resultant extended hang time. The harvest did not begin until September 22nd, and we were fortunate to have picked all but a micro-vineyard of Petit Verdot before the October rains. We had one pick after the rains, completing harvest on October 24th. The wines in general are very strong with intense color, flavor and good balance of acid and ripe tannins.

2009 Oakville East - Core Stone Red Wine

tasting notes

The Core Stone nose is very youthful and has surprising but exciting tropical notes. The mouth feels is purity, focus and density due to the Cabernet Franc. The combination of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot and Cabernet Franc exhibit some youthful rusticity in combination with the soft, elegant, ripe and full tannin structure. As always with Core Stone, the wine has an almost sweet entry, a velvety mid palate that is enveloped by beautiful fruit impressions of sweet cola cherry, violet, blueberries, blackberries, and licorice integrated with spicy oak notes.  The wine is well balanced with acid and tannins and a long fruit finish. Core Stone needs time to develop and will age beautifully.

2009 Oakville East – Exposure Cabernet Sauvignon

tasting notes

Extraordinary deep violet color, huge mouth-feel of rich concentrated tannins, which are overwhelmed by spicy flavors and dense dark fruit that attack and explode in the mouth, but still maintains the velvety finish, which is Oakville East -Exposure Cabernet. Exposure exhibits aromas of chocolate, roasted fruit, raspberries, violets and sweet toasty oak that are perfectly balanced with its black fruit flavors and tannins.

Oakville East presents Franc ‘n Stern

There’s something new at Oakville East! Announcing the premiere of our new wine 2010 Franc ‘n Stern.

tasting notes

From the combination of soil, elevation, microclimate and exposure Franc ‘n Stern exhibits a full bodied, dark garnet, multifaceted wine.
The mischievous elegance defined by lovely, intense, sweet black currant and mocha aromas lead into a fiendishly bright tannin structure. The grotesquely bright mid-palate fruit shuffles in exquisitely balanced flavors of blackberry, blueberry, cherries and plums that excite horror in those unfamiliar with our miscreant Cabernet Franc.
